Hello.
Next time, I’ll say hello again.
It’s time I started writing something.
What’s the point of having a blog if you don’t blog, or a website if you don’t web?
I’m giving in to the family pressure to get me into the 21st century, even though I don’t know what I’m doing and need help to put anything “out there.” I’m tech-illiterate, the last century is my century, but I’m trying, and little by little I’m learning.
And I’m now finally at last starting because I have things to say. Things that need to be said.
And we’re living in a time when we need so much, and I guess I can add my voice to what I hope is or will become a choir. I’m a baritone and I can sing some of the low notes. And, as I used to say, “I’m not just a light-weight.”
So feel free to take me seriously.
And I’m re-starting my writing career, after about forty years hiatus. Just had a poem accepted by Thema Magazine, and another poem accepted by Asimov Science Fiction Magazine, both coming out next year. And submissions, stories and essays as well, out and waiting, so maybe…
And articles about teaching. I was a career teacher. All the past tense verbs give you a hint about how old I am. Cliche: Old enough to know better. And “better” I think is the operative word, the main reason that I’m writing this now and this way, trying to reach people, lots of people. In an article for the English Journal years ago, I argued “A Plea for Cooperative Continuity,” that we, teachers, hold all of society in our hands and pass the children/students on from our classrooms year to year, and if we’re together in this, after twelve years of cumulative learning, everyone, the whole country, the whole world, will be ready and able to make things as they should be, a better world. I still believe this. And I think that’s the way to do it, get everyone able to read and think. I always wanted my students to get to the point where they no longer needed me. We could still be friends, keep in touch, but they have lives and should be able to lead them in a better world. I hope I live to see it.
So this is fair warning that I’ll be saying that again in different ways. And if you get to know me, as you get to know me, you’ll see that I don’t quit, don’t give up.
I’m working on my autobiography, coming along, almost ready for additions and updates. I’ll tell you stories. And jokes. Lots of jokes.
So…things to look forward to.
Bye for now.
