I think it was comedian Mort Sahl, famous for his charts showing where you stood on certain issues between the far right and the far left, moveable positions that form an overall political picture of you, who relished making jokes about absurdity, made the famous statement about Nixon – “He’s the guy, when you’re drowning twenty feet from shore, he throws you a fifteen foot rope, and says, I met you more than half way.”
