For the things you can’t get without it.
For the feeling you get when you know they’ll let you in because you have it.
For the chance to sit at the table and roll the dice or take a card or spin a wheel.
For the chance to drive a car fast and know that even if they stop you they’ll let you go.
For perpetrating transactions under the table and not leave a written record.
For the opportunity to be arrogant and flash it around and say things like “Money is no object,” and look down on people who don’t have it or have less.
For knowing you spring from “the root of all evil” and you can be as evil as the next man.
For carrying in your pockets so they won’t be empty.
For feeling flush as you leave enough for the waiter to remember you.
For the chance to go to the bank and they’ll open the door and bow.
To light a cigar.
To keep certain people quiet.
To get you elected.
For the chance to join the club and rule the world and get away with anything.
