Wake Up - the famous scene from the movie School Daze

Who Woke up Who for What

Woke.

Please explain it to me in terms I can understand. I really want to know.

If it’s a bad thing, because I’m against bad things, I’ll do what I can to get rid of the bad.

I’ve been trying to pay attention. People use the word a lot. I’ve looked on the Internet, which isn’t definitive and not much help.

If it means that people were asleep and now they woke up, that sounds like a good thing.

I think it has something to do with discrimination. I always thought discrimination was bad. It seems to say that some people are treated unfairly for things they can’t help.

But now, unless I’m wrong, it seems that the minority of rich white men have their feelings hurt because most people aren’t happy with them owning and controlling everything, having way more than they ever need, when everybody else like me are struggling just to get by. That doesn’t sound fair. They think people are being mean to them just because democracy and law and love of neighbor are what most people signed up for.

Please explain it to me so I can understand what’s going on. I’ll pay attention, I’ll stay awake. I feel personally involved.
