An island of sanity
in a sea of I don’t know what.
An island of one.
I clutch at things
to keep from sinking because
you sink you drown.
You think, you don’t sink
I think.
I yell
Help!
I look around.
All around
there are others
so many
hands flailing reaching
toward each other
to hold on
to keep from drowning
I grab on
Let’s find something
anything
we can think about together
and agree on
to keep us afloat
from drowning
How about food?
We all know something
about it
We all still eat
whenever we can
It’s something to talk about
common experience
unifies the world
to distract us from
what’s pulling us down
to drown
and when we think together
the unity of community
rises us up
and we reach solid ground.
Let’s eat!
