Raise a Glass

Don’t Short-Change the Minds of Others

To change someone’s mind
you should be willing and able
to change your own
You have to sit together long enough
to keep back and forth going
you ask they answer
they ask you answer
each willing to listen
if you agree
to disagree
you’re in agreement
and sometimes
that’s all they want
agree when you can
like the fact of your mutual presence
then measure where
you are together
and where you diverge
set time aside
and probably
if you both like beer
you can agree on that and
raise a glass together

Raise a Glass
Raise a glass and find common ground
