There’s a tree branch jerking outside the window.
I think squirrels.
We used to have raccoons
long ago
climbing up the tree
jumping to the roof
staring at us through the window
their eyes big
with that dark eyeshadow makeup
we’d look back
questioning each other
then they’d turn leisurely
and amble around the corner
owning the house.
I know it’s not possums.
We used to have them in the yard
but I don’t think they could climb trees.
They were strictly feet on the ground.
That’s why I think it’s squirrels.
Or maybe the wind.
