I heard another helicopter.

There have been a lot lately.

At first I thought we were at war.

But no, not lately, not in our neighborhood. The war is over there somewhere, don’t ask me why, nobody seems to know, even if they’re in charge.

So it’s not war, as far as I can tell.

So what is it?

There goes another one.

Maybe it’s the news.

Just yesterday, a car crashed into a bus, and a news helicopter then crashed into the bus having no safe landing area due to so many helicopters swarming the bus. News choppers, lots of them hovering over the action on the ground, a shooting, a car crash, a bank heist, whatever, looking for a camera angle and swarming like mosquitos at the scent of blood.

But that was yesterday.

So I thought that maybe these new ones today are from the government, looking for clues, like footprints.

But, as far as I know, helicopters don’t leave footprints. And even if they did, they wouldn’t last from yesterday. I mean, the air keeps moving.

And, as far as I know, they don’t leave vapor trails or contrails either, like jet planes up high. And even if they did, they wouldn’t last from yesterday, just like helicopters, for the same reason.

It’s a mystery, like so many things these days I can’t explain.

So I turned on the news, but they don’t know anything. And even if they did, they don’t tell us, even with updates.

It’s like somebody doesn’t want us to know.

I thought of calling up the helicopter driver to ask him what’s going on, but I don’t have his number. And even if I did, I’m probably already on the do-not-call-do-not-answer list and they’d probably cut my phone service and send the police.

I thought of contacting the helicopter directly by putting a question mark on the roof of the house. But they’d probably just drop a bomb on the house. Or a guided missile.
