I looked out the window and saw what I thought was the gardener next door chopping at the weeds. Stroke, stroke, stroke.
Then I kept looking, saw the light shift with the wind, and now it was a hanging array on the gazebo, designed to scare away the woodpeckers that have been boring into the posts.
The wind shifted again, the hanging array was gone from my sight, vanished with the erstwhile gardener.
How strange the world is, when we see things that are not there, and even they disappear.
I must defend myself against vicissitude, and look at everything at least twice.
