We always used to chuckle when we drove down Fair Oaks Avenue in Pasadena and passed the John Bull Pub on the ground floor of a three story building that housed artists, their studios, and art works on display hoping for someone to buy. At the top of the building on the north-facing side in large bold letters was the message:
“My people are the people of the dessert,”
said T. E. Lawrence picking up his Fork.
When the movie Lawrence of Arabia came out in 1962, people drove by twice.

This signage remained on the building until the 1994 Northridge Earthquake (a magnitude 6.7) damaged the building. the building survived, but during repairs, the signage was removed, which is a shame. A group of preservationists in Pasadena are lobbying to restore many of the unique signs to existing historical buildings in Pasadena, so it yet may return.
