I needed something by tomorrow
and checked the internet
for overnight delivery
to Altadena
just north of Pasadena.
They said,
“Sure.
It’s only miles away.”
Tomorrow came.
Package not yet.
I did my electronic check
to see where the package was.
It said,
“Out for delivery.”
I thought,
“That’s good.”
Then, a little anxious,
I checked again.
“Still out for delivery.”
Then, more info,
“Brief stop-over in Shanghai,
transferred planes,
arriving soon.”
Then,
“Logged in
at Anchorage, Alaska,
re-routed,
arriving soon.”
Then,
“Mistakenly included
with shipment to Borneo,
lost in the jungle,
should be arriving soon,
maybe a day or two.
Maybe three.
Not to worry,
arriving soon.”
I got in the car,
drove the few miles,
picked up another one
in person.
If the order finally does arrive,
I won’t bother
to ask for a refund.
I know how that would go.
