I heard the local whispered stories
some which told of the occult
extra terrestrials
strange powers hidden
behind the perpetual clouds
around the summit
behind which you just knew
things were going on
and on the lake a boat
sonar testing depth
and suddenly the probe
drops out of range
below deep
beneath measure
and you just know
there’s a gateway
to the nether other world
behind the clouds
and the entire earth
is in peril
in danger always
from things unknown
unseen
we’ve got the house in Dunsmuir
so close we see the mountain
but not far away enough
to be safe
we must do what we can
we’ve seen the signs
